My Super Late Birthdate Post

[Somehow the post I made last November 11 got erased… or my final output wasn’t saved properly… so I’m editing this one…]

I promised myself to – at least – post during my birthdays.  So I’m fulfilling that promise.

It’s been 3 months to this date since my birthday.  I had every intention of writing a post last August 11 (but I missed out that time.  Blame the lackluster drive to write) … the 11th of September… then I didn’t even try anymore last October.

You’d probably say “How pathetic!”  And I’d… somehow agree.  So instead of making excuses and justify with lame reasons, I’m going to simply jump in and share what’s been going on (to you my dear readers who’ve been patiently waiting).

Can you think of a time that you needed to accomplish something but just couldn’t get to really doing it?

This post would be one example for me.  I’ve been writing and rewriting it in my brain as if it were my birthday yesterday.  And yet I still could not make myself open my app.  Maybe the idea of turning an age older and not have accomplished much since last year was not even worth celebrating.  Even my boss has already encouraged me to take the time off then to finish my research paper revisions in time for my birthday to really have something to celebrate (the second example of something I needed to accomplish… you get the drift).  And I ended up coming down with the flu and fever during my birthday week.  Maybe celebrating for myself is just so passé. I haven’t been really feeling celebratory about my own self. Celebrating for others… well that’s another matter.

I guess it’s easier to celebrate for others than for myself. Glad to discover my “creative juices” have been free-flowing. I’ve been juggling from sketching, diys, and just about any stuff that catches my fancy. So I’m posting some photos of the ones I’ve done so far.

That’s all for now. If you want to ask about the DIYs I’ve made, feel free to post a comment and I’ll try to get back to you. I’m currently helping out the English Department of my grade level in preparing for a production. So i’m quite busy with that. I hope to write about it once it’s done. So keep posted! 🙂

A Month in 30

So I promised myself I’d blog today (September 11, 2014), a month after my birthday just to break my writer’s block spell.

30 years… and counting.  3 decades of being alive.

I missed being greeted with a birthday song by my parents early in the morning.  And I guess I’ll be always missing their voices every time my day comes up.  But anyway, I couldn’t think of anything in particular to write about yet, so I’m going to share a couple of things (30 to be exact… and if I can!) that I am grateful for this past few months and counting.

1.  Employment Status: Regular

My birthday came early with the notice of my regularization.  Mom and Dad would’ve been happy and proud.

How about you guys?  Anything (or many things) to be grateful for?  Do share your own list!

Somehere in My Youth… or Childhood

I’m still on a high from all the festivities and celebration with my closest friends over the weekend.  Definitely my most memorable and most surprising birthday ever!  I feel lucky and blessed to have the greatest set of friends anyone could ever have!!!

Nothing comes from nothing… Nothing ever could.  So somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good.

– Something Good, The Sound of Music

Early Celebration

It’s been more than an hour since the clock struck 12 signaling the start of a new year in my life. It’s been more than an hour since I parted ways with my girls. I initially planned a “Birthday Eve” post but somehow… what I planned to post last night wouldn’t apply anymore.

I still can’t label the exact emotion that I am feeling. Bittersweet… maybe. Happy on one end since the day brings joy as a present itself, and nostalgic on the other end knowing that I won’t be greeted in the morning as I was used to. Nevertheless, someone… somewhere… somehow… makes it right. With just a smile.

    Reasons to Smile

I rarely receive surprises (especially during my birthdays). Mom would always let herself slip in telling me about her “surprises”. My friends… well… I end up pointing out my suspicions and poof! Busted. I didn’t hear the silent hustling of feet this time nor paid too much attention to the nonverbal cues of my bffs. I wasn’t treated to the sound of a band loudly playing their natal tunes (not that I normally would) nor the charismatic greetings at home but instead, I was treated to an early surprise serenade by Baba. A much appreciated birthday gift from a friend a thousand miles away. Aside from that, a scribbled genuine and heartfelt greet gave me more reasons to smile. A reminder of how lucky I am to be me.

Now, 2 of my friends (Kimi and Toffee) working in Manila flew in for the weekend. Toffee flew in especially for my birthday. It felt good again to just spend time with them and TALK. A memorable afternoon spent for gown-fitting (for Kimi’s wedding), dinner dates and hunting for materials for Toffee’s gown. Had coffee and tea at Toptea then stayed out until 12MN at YohFroz to celebrate the eve of my birthday. Thank you for sitting in with me as I welcomed a new year in my life. I feel so lucky and blessed to have the greatest set of friends anyone could have! Thanks Rai for sacrificing sleep to stay up much later than you should have. Most of all, THANK YOU for your surprise! A wonderful and amazing treat indeed!

Right now my heart seems to palpitate heavily. This overload to the senses has left me wide awake. There’s still a void in me somewhere… questions still unanswered… But just by basking in the sunshine of the authenticity and goodness of true friends – whose presence warms my heart – I know everything will be alright.

If Each Birthday Cake Were An Age Marker

If each birthday cake were an age marker, I think I’d have added a good 16 years worth of cake during my birthday week(end).

I’m not used to holding parties or any celebration of my birth for that matter especially during my working years.  The hassle in preparation plus finding a perfect mix for a celebration was always too restricting fo me.  I’ve gotten used to people giving hints on party details.  Even at home, bigtime celebrations were a thing of the past.

Just imagine my pleasure when a day before my birthday (since August 11 was a Saturday) I prepared a small serving of food for my colleagues when they whipped out their surprise for me.

My first surprise cake from SDC – Chocolate Cake

But aside from the surprise cake and other treats, my Grade Level colleagues gave such a beautiful prayer for me.

Really quite refreshing to be in an environment that’s very positive and selfless.

My celebration continued on the date of my birth itself.  We only had one class in the morning and the rest of the day was given to me as a gift (so to speak).  I decided to introduce some of my colleagues to Valhall Bar and Deli for cold cuts and other dishes.

Food Trip: Valhall Bar and Deli

When I got home, I found this… my second surprise birthday cake courtesy of my mom.  Plus my most favorite Baked Macaroni from Kimbell’s (my childhood favorite baked macaroni baker.

My 2nd Cake Surprise: Carrot Cake and Baked Macaroni

Since Mom prepared for dessert, I opted to invite my #DavaoRusher friends (including my bff) to celebrate with me at home.  And as luck would have it, I got my third cake surprise in likes of Red Ribbon’s Mocha Roll.  How I LOVE mocha!

Davao Rushers with one lacking – @Rawrph

And to culminate my weekend birthday surprise, Mom ordered chocolate cake as a “make-up” surprise for all the years wherein she never got to do this.  Expecting one piece of cake to bring to my workplace, she got her own surprise when her friend prepared a dozen and one mini cakes for me.

13 mini cakes

I know it’s a month late in posting.  But I felt the need to really post this.  Thank you for everyone who made this year’s birthday a very memorable one.  The change in my life for the past few months have been such a whirlwind of experience and a rollercoaster of emotions.  In all my years of working in an industrial setting, it is only through my current job that have experienced being treated exceptionally.

I wish I could have shared it with friends who were far away and loved ones who’ve gone ahead.  Nevertheless, thank you for the greetings and memories I will always cherish.

If each birthday cake were indeed markers of age, then I wouldn’t mind getting thousands of cakes if it meant that I am loved.

Thank you everyone!

A BFF-ful Weekend Adventure

One of my bff (Toffee) was in town during the last weekend of September.  This vacation was a spur-of-the-moment plan a few months back.  Good thing she was able to get a seat sale from Cebu Pacific.  So did one of her colleagues.

Anyway, a week before her arrival, I was already thinking what our plans would be for bff Rai’s birthday.  But since Rai “initially” planned celebrating her day with her family (since it was a Sunday), I didn’t press the issue anymore.  Instead, we decided to push through with our swimming adventure at Villa de Mercedes with her older sis MM, and first-time-in-Davao visitor Nina.

For a brief overview of my weekend, I’m marking it in days (sharing a few photos as well):

Friday (September 30, 2011)

Aya [Charles] and I was already set to go out with a couple of our workmates for a little RnR and get-together.  Since Toffee was around, I asked her to join us.  The videoke session with the guys was a FUN experience.  Getting to see their more “rowdy” side made it more fun to get to know them altogether.  I was even able to prod one of our officemates (Joy) to catch up with us.  And I made a new discovery!  Joy can sure carry out a tune!.  Note to self: Must volunteer her for the Christmas party program. LOL.

After the 3 or 4 hours of singing, we decided to call it a night (since Aya and I still had an inventory to attend to the next day.  So we said goodbye to our colleagues.  So that left the 3 (aya, achi, and me) of us.  Feeling a bit uppity, I asked them to eat Durian.  (Which I ended up eating all to myself!  Thank you aya for finishing of the LAST fruit for me).

Saturday (October 1, 2011)

Inventory day.  Imagine sleeping only for a couple of hours then waking up to get to the office early.  Lucky for aya, we just had to pick him up along the way to the farm.  Sheesh!  Talk about ZOMBIE-MODE.  LOL.  So off we went to our work.  Good thing we finished early.  I could catch a few Zzz’s before heading off to our basketball game that night.  UNFORTUNATELY, my brain had other plans.  I couldn’t even get a nap.  So instead of sleeping, I decided to meet up with achi instead at the mall.  Figured since she’d be watching my game, better go there together.  And what luck!  Raisa was also coming along.

After purchasing food to eat, we took a taxi to Woodridge so I could prep up.  Along the way, we were finally able to convince the birthday girl to come with us the next day.  Since her family celebration was for lunch, it left plenty of time to spare in the afternoon.  And as an added bonus?  Our godsons got to have permission to come along.  Perfect!

I love having my bffs there during my games.  I get to have a boost of confidence in playing.  Though at times I can’t concentrate.  Too much publicity.  LOL.  But I’m truly happy they’re there.

My AVID fans

Yup! My teammates are guys..

Although we lost.  I’m happy I was able to score a couple of 3 pointers.  (Show-off!)  My lack of sleep was slowly seeping in during the game.  And the lack of players wasn’t helping though.  Anyway, winning (or losing) didn’t matter.  I was just glad I could sweat off a couple of pounds from my system every once in a while.  Here’s to next year’s league! 🙂

Up next, dinner.  Since we all ate a heavy late afternoon snacks, we skipped the dinner plans at Lyndon’s and went off to Barrio Bistro to grab their buy 1 take 1 pizza instead.  If you remember, I posted about Barrio Bistro a few weeks ago.  Check it out here.  So off we went!  We ordered their All Cheese Pizza and another Pizza (I forgot what it was called) and waited for it to be served while catching up with each other’s life.  In addition, we had a small “exchange gift” moment too.

Tangled (Our gifts)

Sunday (October 2, 2011):

BFF Raisa’s birthday!!! Villa de Mercedes Swimming day!!!

Being the “planner” of the group, I still had one main problem for our activity.  Transportation.

Just a little sidenote and background about Villa de Mercedes.  VDM is an exclusive subdivision located at Catigan, Toril 585 ft. above sea level.  When I say exclusive, I mean ELITE.  The homeowners don’t just allow walk-in guests and use their clubhouse… particularly their infinity pool.  That’s what discovered upon visiting VDM the first time.  I was looking for a venue for our Christmas party when I remember VDM (courtesy of my former classmate who posted a few of her photos here.  I didn’t get her words then when she said you needed an agent to get in).  So when I was at their coffee shop, the barista explained that you needed to be a homeowner, or invited by one, OR have an agent to “sponsor” your visit.  She then pointed me a brochure postcard indicating their “Agent For the Day” whom I could contact to be invited.

So flash forward. I already coordinated with the agent a few days ago but transportation was a last-minute problem.  So when I informed the agent just to confirm our invite, she called me up to ask for other details.  When we got to the point about the transportation (and lack thereof), she offered to drive my group instead.  Yes!  Problem solved!  After meeting up with my bffs, my godsons, and meeting achi’s officemate Nina, we waited for Ms. Agent to pick us up.

The ride was quite pleasant and Ms. Agent was very open in sharing about Villa de Mercedes.  Acting out as a tour guide, she happily gave information about each subdivision phase, from the main entrance… to the lots… the features… the amenities… and the overall briefing of its “ELITE-ness”.  Impressive!

Finally, we were dropped off at the coffee shop to take a breathtaking view of the pool.  After the final words, we went off to change and finally try out their ionized pool.

[For more information about Villa de Mercedes, I saw this site to share with you.]

Breathtaking. And the view wasn't bad too. LOL

The coffee shop up above..

Bffs and Godsons

Light snacks

After having our fill of swimming, we were ready to go and have dinner.  Ms. Malou toured as to their “Kubo” area wherein visitors could eat the foods we brought along (since bringing in of foods at the clubhouse and pool area was prohibited).  Good thing our godsons brought snacks for us to share with and munch on.

We did our perfunctory jumpshot (though I only posted mine. LOL)  So Ms. Malou dropped us of at SM.  Achi bought a couple of treats to bring back to Manila which we dropped off at their house then we went to…. LYNDON’S (remember by blog about them here?) with ate MM.

Ready to Order!

Our shared Dinner

Baked Scallops

Can I just say that the reaction of Nina was priceless when she took that first forkful of spareribs!  Utter bliss!

Next stop?  Eating durian! However, we got a BIT sidetracked when we passed by Margie’s Bakeshop and remembered we didn’t have a cake for the birthday girl.  So here it is!

Mini-cake shared by 5 ladies

To cap the day off (well… for me though since the four other girls were going to have a massage after), we went off to FINALLY have our Durian.  Durian is one of the fruit specialties in Davao.  With a smell like hell (so they say.  Personally, I find the smell appetizing) but tastes like heaven.  For Nina, it was a new experience and I was glad we were there to boost her into taking that first bite.

Durian! Arancillo variety

Well, that’s all I can share for now!  Hope you enjoyed reading!  I’m looking forward to my next adventure. 🙂

My [What A]Day

My day started out pretty gloomy.  No breakfast set on the table, no steady chants of the “Happy Birthday” tune from Mom or Dad, no presents by my bedside.  Waking up early wasn’t too appealing… but I slept early and oversleeping would have caused unwanted headaches.  Not a good thing to carry the whole day.  I wanted to take a leave of absence (even an unpaid one) but there were a number of pending workload at the office.

I longed to be serenaded “Mañanita-style” – early morning singing from a group of friends to start my day.  But, so far, I haven’t had the privilege of that activity.  The more traditional greets I get are the midnight texts (and calls!) from a few of my closest friends.  2 people greeted me that time.  Tol and my ex bf.

The day continues…

I didn’t really know what to expect.  But with the numerous birthday greetings I got in Facebook, plus the personal greets (and off-key singing) from my office mates, it was hard not to feel a tinge of warmth inside me and cause a breakout of smiles.

Here are a few simple surprises that made my day:

Flowers taken from a decoration at the office given by 2 of my teammates/officemates

Rocker Girl’s Gift (For my basketball days)

A bouquet of flowers was also delivered in the office from a secret admirer (not really, let’s just pretend to make it more exciting! LOL).  I’ve always wanted to receive a package of that kind.  A truly heartwarming experience.

My day became quite hectic in the afternoon.  My scheduled interviews pretty much took up my time.  I was feeling a bit guilty not being able to provide, at the least, light snacks for the office.  But I had no choice.  Being broke is such a stressor!

I wasn’t too eager to go home and celebrate by myself.  Thankfully, bff Toffee told me her sis wants to meet up with me.

Maybe Ate MM will be giving me the souvenir she promised from her trip! Weee!

Bff Raisa was also coming along to meet up.  A welcome company.

Surprise, surprise!!!

Ate MM, came along with 3 boxes of Cello’s Donuts & Dips (as per instruction of her younger sister/bff Toffee).  Definitely unexpected.

I still miss the numerous personal greetings from people I know but this one sums it up.

Thank you BFFs Toffee and Raisa!  Thank you, Ate MM!  Thank you for making this day special for me.  I guess no matter which part of the country we are (or the world for that matter!), going the extra mile, being able to put a smile in our faces and uplift our soul, will never be a problem.  I’m still a bit sad for a couple of things, but It’s not much of a big deal now. Smile

Thank you.

Birthday Top Billboard Song

(This one made my day.)

I usually visit Chico Garcia‘s Strange Fruit blog for a perk-me-up during my low days and just to check on updates and information.  A couple of times his About Me inserts on his posts catches my attention – the statement:

“If you were to believe one pop existential theory, the song that was number one on the week of your birth, will dictate the theme of the rest of your life.”

I should check it out.

The result?  It’s Ray Parker Jr.’s hit – GHOSTBUSTERS.

I wasn’t so sure on what I’d be expecting, but finding this one out was quite… hilarious.  LOL.  I can honestly say that my birth was a time for ghostbustin’! LOL.  And I guess, I will forever be hooked with soundtracks.

I’d forgotten how the plot in the movies (and the animated series) played out.  The theme song was the main thing that have stuck in my brain.

If there’s something strange
In your neighborhood
Who you gonna call
If there’s something weird
And it don’t look good
Who you gonna call

Catchy tune with phrases that have been associated with the franchise for years… maybe I should apply it too: “Who you gonna call?”  Maybe that’s why I get called when problems at work arise. LOL.

If you’re seeing things
Running through your head
Who can you call
An invisible man
Sleeping in your bed
Oh, who you gonna call

If I were to get serious in pursuing my psychology profession, this will definitely be my jumpstarter.  Ghosts of the unforeseen kind aren’t limited in the paranormal world after all.

For those who want to know the top song during your date of birth, click here.  And if you already now, tell me about it.  How do you feel about it?  Hope to hear from you!

Indescribable Day

Today would have been my dad’s 64th birthday.   I’m missing him so much right now.  But I’m thankful that I’m able to spare him the pain he would have been suffering.  Aside from his illness, he would be very affected if he knew what’s going on with my work life right now.  I guess that’s one of the reasons which I rarely share my troubles with my parents.

I’m particularly feeling down today.  I was intent on taking a leave of absence this day and visit my dad’s final resting place.  But due to a number of work-related concerns, I had to report to work.  Big mistake!  Reporting for work was utterly unbearable the whole day!  My fb (female boss) was at our plant.  Interviewing… for my replacement.

I was fine with that.  But having to see it live was quite humiliating.  Add to that, fb wasn’t exactly tact about the whole thing (especially on some lapses on my part).

UGH!!! It’s just SO annoying!  And depressing!

I still haven’t turned in my resignation so it would be against labor laws if they ASK me for my resignation letter.  So I’m just hoping that I’ll be able to land another job soon which I hope would be a better environment (and compensations too).

Sorry bffs.  Guess we’ll have to schedule our con-call some other time.  I’m just not in the talking mood.  Wishing for tightest of hugs though.

Recalling My Day

It’ll be my fourth fun run tomorrow.  I need to sleep already and wake up early.  But I’m still lazing around.  I guess I’m still a bit “high” from my day.  Met up with my bff at Gaisano Mall, brought a new pair of earphones (needed another one), went window shopping.  Eventually we left to go to SM and meet up bff achi’s older sis.  Sidetripped a bit at the cosplay event, snapped a few photos then went to the Sun Shop and follow up on our renewal.

BFF said we’d be going to Lanang and celebrate Sean’s (my other godchild) 7th birthday.  I bought two gifts since I wasn’t able to give his older brother a gift last October 18.  Good thing I was already able to canvas the price of their greatly raved color-changing toy cars.  *Whew*

So off we went, then had our fill of the food, chatted with the family, then eventually headed home.  So that brings me here.  I really need to sleep (even the background music playing is Itchyworms’ “Tulog Na” – a clear indication to tuck myself in already).  Oh well… better finish my fun run playlist to keep me up to pace tomorrow.  I’ll be running with my bff tomorrow.  A first! (Last week’s run with her didn’t count).  Finally, it’ll push through.

Wish me luck!
